The Australian Resuscitation Councils recommends that CPR is renewed annually.


Practical training of CPR requires that trainees perform CPR on an adult manikin, which is placed on the floor as well as an infant manikin placed on a hard surface.

Special Needs:               

Trainees with special needs, either physical difficulties or literacy difficulties, should inform the trainer so that assistance can be arranged to meet their needs.


This course is designed for people who want to learn how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)  and how to use an AED (Automated External Defrillator).

Course Outcome:           

This course provides the skills to recognise and manage a casualty who is unconscious and is not breathing or not breathing normally.

Modules to cover:  

  • Anatomy of the body
  • DRSABCD Action Plain in line with ARC guidelines
  • ARC Guidelines relevant to the provision of CPR
  • Management of the unconscious patient 
  • Lateral/Recovery Position
  • Safe manual handling techniques
  • Infection control principles and procedures, including use of standard precautions
  • Safe work practices to minimise risks and potential hazards
  • Chain of survival including how to send for help
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR for Adult and Infant)
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Accurate verbal or written report of an incident
  • The importance of debriefing
